Longman English Interactive is a four-level, video based, integrated-skills software program. Students work with contemporary and engaging video, audio, animations, and extensive practice activities to develop essential skills. About Longman English Interactive 1 & 2

Longman English Interactive is an interactive program for global communication. The program is available as a CD-ROM for Windows, but is also available as a network version.

Level 1 is designed for beginners while level 2 is for high beginners. For information about Longman English Interactive for intermediate learners, please go to our Longman English Interactive 3 & 4 page.

Longman English Interactive 1 & 2 was designed by Michael Rost.

Features of Level 1 & Level 2

• Students develop skills in speaking, listening, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, reading and writing.
• Role-plays with video characters engage learners and create realistic dialogue practice.
• A unique pronunciation feature uses animation to help learners focus on word/sentence stress and intonation patterns.
• Animated grammar explanations illustrate how grammar works.
• Culture Notes help learners understand cultural differences and learn new language within a broader social context.
• Native language support for Instructions, The Orientation, Culture Notes, video and audio transcripts, and online Help offers translation in nine languages.
• Each level offers 100 hours of instruction, and is available in both American and British English.

Levels

Level 1: Beginner

Level 1 is organized into three five-unit modules. Students learn skills necessary to communicate effectively in real-world situations, including how to:

• Make introductions and exchange important information
• Describe people, places, and things
• Relay news, current events, and discuss life experiences
• Make schedules, plan events, and make travel arrangements
• Interview effectively

Level 2: High Beginner

Level 2 is organized into three five-unit modules. It builds on Level 1 language skills to help learners master important communication strategies. Students engage in interactive activities that present a variety of useful topics, including how to:

• Talk about work and other routines
• Give advice and provide recommendations
• Order items, read directions, use computer hardware and software
• Discuss travel and culture
• Talk about personal experiences, health, and lifestyles
  

Suggested Student Texts

A Communication Companion Student Book is available for each level of the course.

The books have been especially designed to provide opportunities for the teacher to incorporate in-class activities into the program. Extensive pair, small group and whole class practice highlight the key teaching points in the online course.

• Sound card, microphone, and speakers (Microphones plugged into USB ports are not supported.)
• 10X CD-ROM drive
• Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher (Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher recommended) (Note: Netscape and AOL browser software are not supported.)
• Macromedia's Flash 5 (or higher) and Shockwave 8 (or higher), Apple's QuickTime 5 (or higher), and Sun's Java 1.4.1 (or higher) plug-ins. (Note: If your computer does not have these plug-ins, they will be installed automatically when you install the course.)

• Floppy disk drive (for saving student data) (Lab Workstation Version only)
